Kool Moe Dee is an American rapper, writer, and actor who has published the solo studio albums Kool Moe Dee (1986), How Ya Like Me Now (1987), Knowledge Is King (1989), Funke, Funke Wisdom (1991), and Interlude (1994). The 2nd and 3rd of those albums had been certified ‘Platinum’ and ‘Gold’, respectively, by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). He had first come into the spotlight in the early 1980s as a member of the Treacherous Three, a pioneering American hip hop group that was formed in 1978. With that group, he had released the studio albums – The Treacherous Three (1984) and Old School Flava (1994). Kool Moe Dee is also well recognized as one of the pioneers of new jack swing, a fusion genre of the rhythms and production techniques of hip hop and dance-pop, and the urban contemporary sound of R&B.
