- He spent initial years in Allen before moving to Fairview, Texas along with his family.
- Matt’s father Mike was a football coach who worked at Purdue University and Southern Methodist University. Whereas, his mother DeDe worked as a portrait artist.
- He had developed a passion for acting at an early age and went on to take part in a number of high school plays while at Allen High School.
- Barr was part of the cast of the American Pie Presents: Band Camp in which he played the role of Brandon Vandecamp.
- In 2009, he was cast on the web series of S*x Ed: The Series alongside various stars including Angela Sarafyan and George Finn.
